Malcolm wins Locker Room Sports GTE Over 35 tourney

Nicholas Malcolm defeated Glenford Harris to win the championship title in the inaugural Locker Room Great Tennis Events Over 35 Tennis Tournament held at the Liguanea Club from Friday through Sunday.

Glenford Harris won the serve, however, Malcolm rallied to win the first set 6-4, and led throughout the second set to win 6-1.

Malcolm said he had a consistent game plan that worked for him. "I came out to win the match. It was not a walkover but it was really a good game," he said.

Malcolm pocketed $25,000 and the championship trophy, while Harris took home $15,000 and the runner-up trophy.

In semi-final action Malcolm defeated Mel Spence 6-3, 7-5 to book his spot in the final, while Harris won his semi-final round 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 against Ruddy Armstrong to face Malcolm in the final.

Mel Spence took the Inspire-Howard Chin Award for discipline and camaraderie throughout the tournament.

Event organiser Llockett McGregor welcomed the Locker Room Sports Great Tennis Events Over 35 Tournament to the tennis calendar and thanked all the participants for their support.

"We look forward to working with GTE with many more events to come," McGregor said.

David Shirley of title sponsors Locker Room Sports said it was a fantastic tournament and he is looking forward to having more GTE tournaments throughout the island.

"We are encouraging more persons to watch and learn tennis. It is never too late to learn the game," Shirley said.
